Republican activist JoAnne Burr dies

Burr
JoAnne Watson Burr, long active in Republican politics and the mother of two local elected officials, has died. She was 69.
Services for the 32-year Henderson resident who died Thursday were to be today at the Palo Verde Chapel of the LDS Church in Henderson. Burial will be in Palm Memorial Park-Henderson.
Among her five children are Clark County School Board member Jeff Burr and Henderson Justice of the Peace Rodney Burr.
Born Feb. 20, 1927, in Van Lear, Ky., Burr was the daughter of Thomas and Grace Watson.
In 1948, Burr graduated with a bachelor's degree in English from Berea College in Kentucky.
She moved to Henderson in 1964, where she became active in local and state politics. She was a member of the Henderson Republican Women's Club.
In addition to her sons, Burr is survived by her husband, Lynn Burr of Henderson; three daughters, Linda Findlay, Tracey West and Amy Kirk, all of Henderson; a brother, Carl Watson of Prestonsburg, Ky.; a sister, Geraldine Watson, of Henderson; and 16 grandchildren.
