Money-short senior can’t afford big tips for dinner

Wednesday, Oct. 23, 1996 | 11:59 a.m.

We, who worked all our lives at a no-tip job, and now have the status of senior citizen, might wonder at your "world owes me a living" approach. Shouldn't we tip the chef who make it taste good, or the bus boy who ensured us of a clean and properly set table?

At a standard buck a table, you should reap 30 or 40 bucks a shift, which seems like the moon to someone who never got tipped.

If my bill is two bucks, should I leave you 30 cents? An insult.

If 30 bucks, do I leave $4.50? A bit much for a senior budget.

Do I have to tip more for a $12 steak than a $4 prime rib?

I always tip at least a buck, however my daughter, very strong headed has been known to tip four pennies.

When you collect your pension or Social Security, you will know and appreciate what disposable income means.
