Decision on sports put on hold

The uncertainty of a funding source for the reinstatement of middle school sports is delaying a decision on the $1.5 million proposal.
School Board members, who postponed a decision until their Nov. 26 meeting, also questioned the need for reinstatement of the full athletic program, and suggested that perhaps a gradual restoration may be a better approach.
"There's no denying the importance of having athletic activities for students," said board member Judy Witt. "We have a price tag but no Swiss account number as to where the money is going to come from."
Allin Chandler, president of the Clark County Association of School Administrators, expressed concern that school principals were not consulted about the feasibility of restoring the complete program.
