Two Remaining Suspects In Murder Case Arrested In Nevada

Wednesday, Oct. 16, 1996 | 11:59 a.m.

Authorities believe Shaun Castillo was killed a short time after he left his job at a Trinidad Dairy Queen on Oct. 1.

Castillo died of asphyxiation. His body was found three days later near the top of the Colorado side of Raton Pass.

The victim likely was killed where his body was found, authorities said.

Castillo's vehicle was later found in Las Vegas.

He is thought to have made contact with five suspects from Colorado Springs the night he died, including the two new arrests.

Larry Lucas, 16, and Michael Cantrell, 17, were arrested by Las Vegas authorities sometime over the weekend, authorities said.

The two have been charged as adults with first-degree murder, District Attorney Glenn Davis said Tuesday.

Glenn Davis said Daniel Martin Hansen, 22, Robert Scott Davis, 18, and a 17-year-old girl earlier waived extradition in the case.

Authorities believe the five suspects contacted Castillo to either seek a ride or obtain his vehicle. They face trial in the Third Judicial District, which covers Las Animas and Huerfano counties, with the assistance of the U.S. Attorney General's Office.
