Calling Dr. Simmons, Dr. Richard Simmons. It's David Letterman's worst nightmare! Simmons, 48, says he plans to attend medical school and become a general practitioner. Where did this come from? "Chicago Hope' and 'ER' had nothing to do with it," and neither did his acting stint on "General Hospital," he assures. Actually, Simmons says he's tired of doctors skirting the issues of proper nutrition and obesity. "People become over weight because of the fork." The exercise guru, who already has a bachelor's degree but needs a few pre-med courses, is considering three universities and plans to hit the books -- including his new offering "Farewell to Fat" (GT Publishing. $19.95) -- again in January. Meanwhile, Simmons will continue his cross-country jaunts promoting exercise. "I'm still going to shopping malls. I'm still calling 50 people a day," he says, "but I want to be a doctor, and I think I can help." Besides, "I look good in white."

Splitsville

Mick Jagger still can't get no satisfaction -- so wife Jerry Hall will probably get the kids and the houses. According to a British tabloid, the former model has filed for divorce after learning about recent trysts the 53-year-old Rolling Stone had with "Pulp Fiction" star Uma Thurman and Czech model Jana Rajich. Hall, mother of Jagger's three children, reportedly caught her hubby of six years with another four years ago, but forgave him. This time, however, she's brought out the big guns: Anthony Julius, who represented Princess Diana during her split from Prince Charles, will help with the divorce. And what a job he'll have: The couple owns a mansion in London and a summer home in France. Let the squabbling begin!

Doin' the 'do

Look out Dennis Rodman -- shock jock Howard Stern is up to some hair-rasing antics. Apparently, donning a dress and makeup wasn't shocking enough; now hair designers are squabbling over what color hair the self-proclaimed "King of All Media" should sport on the paperback cover of his book "Miss America." No hot pink or neon green here, though. Would he look better as a blond, a brunette or redhead? Stern's also kicking around the idea of "getting a brand new nose" -- his isn't cute enough as a woman, his publisher says.
