Casinos climb aboard Halloween bandwagon

Wednesday, Oct. 16, 1996 | 11:59 a.m.

When it comes to Halloween promotions, even casinos are recognizing what a good trick-or-treat can mean for the bottom line.

Among the larger events are two Halloween-themed promotions -- one brand new and one that has been around for two years -- planned this year at opposite ends of the valley.

The MGM Grand Scream Park III, a haunting of the Grand Adventures theme park at the MGM Grand, opens Friday night.

Ghoulish characters and eerie scenes become part of the theme park experience, open from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. Oct. 18-19, 24-26 and 30. Admission is $18.95 per person.

Meanwhile, two casinos are collaborating for a first-ever Halloween night observance in North Las Vegas.

Creepstreet, a promotion by Texas Station and Fiesta, will include a costume contest, live entertainment and the burning of a 30-foot wood-and-paper effigy of bad luck called "The Creep."

Casino officials have arranged for Lake Mead Boulevard to be closed between the casinos for the event, which has an admission cost of $5. It's the second time Texas and Fiesta have collaborated on a holiday event.
