CARSON CITY -- The State Industrial Insurance System has secured a $1 million court judgment against two former Las Vegas companies that didn't pay their premiums to cover workers injured on the job.
Deputy Attorney General Harry Schlegelmilch said Friday he would be filing civil actions against the officers of the companies in an attempt to collect the money.
The judgment was against Alternative Business Solutions Inc. and Creative Employees Concept, headquartered in North Mesa, Ariz., which operated an employee leasing business in Las Vegas.
The two companies allegedly owe $395,242 in back premiums, $582,626 for penalties and $59,286 in interest.
The head of the Las Vegas operation was identified as J. Brian Scroggins.
Schlegelmilch said SIIS tried several times to collect the premiums but was unsuccessful. He said the companies under-reported the number of employees who were covered by SIIS and the premiums that must be paid.
Another judgment, for $224,846, was filed against General Business Corp., which operated as Employee Alternatives out of Dayton in Lyon County. Schlegelmilch said this group was tied to the Alternative Business Solutions firm.
It allegedly owed $195,519 in back premiums and $29,327 in interest. This company also has reportedly moved out of Nevada, Schlegelmilch said.
