Gunman who shot puppy still sought
Monday, Oct. 7, 1996 | 11:59 a.m.
A gunman was still at large today after walking into a Las Vegas neighborhood, shooting a 4-year-old girl's puppy and then walking away.
Metro Police have been looking for the man since the Sept. 26 incident, and have not ruled out the possibility that he could live near the child's home in the 3000 block of Piedmont Avenue, near the Palace Station hotel-casino.
"The shooting was without provocation and has been traumatic to the girl, her family and another neighborhood child who also witnessed the shooting," said Metro Sgt. Greg McCurdy.
The puppy survived the .44-magnum bullet wound, but had to have one leg amputated, McCurdy said.
The gunman has been described as a black man in his mid- to late 20s, about 6 feet 2 and 250 pounds, with dark, pockmarked skin and a light beard. He was last seen wearing blue or purple horn-rimmed prescription glasses with a gold band across the top of the frame.
Police consider the man to be armed and dangerous. They ask that anyone who knows the gunman's identity to contact Metro detectives at 229-3581 or Secret Witness at 385-5555.
