Erlien’s ‘Music of Yosemite’ to be featured
Monday, Oct. 7, 1996 | 11:59 a.m.
Erlien will perform original compositions which express his reactions to the natural wonders of the famous national park. His performance will be enhanced by a video presentation.
Erlien visited Yosemite after being inspired by black-and-white photographs of the area by the legendary Ansel Adams. Traveling the back country with a digital keyboard strapped to his back, he sought out the very locations from which Adams had captured his images.
The experience resulted in a series of compositions which were later selected from among 1,000 submissions to be the official music of the 1990 Yosemite Centennial Celebration.
As a licensed marriage, family and child counselor, Erlien frequently uses music in his practice to induce relaxation, facilitate awareness, and access the unconscious. Of the Yosemite project he says, "My idea was to go there as a healer and write the music of the place so that others could experience its healing vibrations."
Erlien's concert is presented by the Clark County Department of Parks and Recreation's Cultural Affairs Division. Additional funding has been provided by a grant from the Nevada State Council on the Arts, a state agency.
Tickets are priced at $7 general admission, and $5 for seniors and students under 18. Winchester Center is located at 3130 S. McLeod Drive, just north of Desert Inn Road. For more information, call 455-7340.
