Tribe Finance Director Pleads Guilty to Stealing Money
Tuesday, Nov. 26, 1996 | 11:59 a.m.
Roberta Thompson, who entered her plea on Wednesday, will be sentenced on Feb. 21. She faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
Ms. Thompson has been on administrative leave since the tribal auditor discovered the missing money in April, tribal Police Chief Chris Lawrence said Monday.
Lawrence said Ms. Thompson has been the finance director for the past 18 years.
"Most of the people were really kind of surprised that it was her. She was a very meticulous bookkeeper for the tribe. That was part of her downfall I think," he said.
