Trial Postponed for Man Accused of Killing, Burying Wife in Back yard

Tuesday, Nov. 26, 1996 | 11:59 a.m.

Monty Meier, 56, had been scheduled to go to trial on Dec. 2 on charges of murder, destroying evidence and forgery.

The trial was postponed until April when both prosecuting and defense attorneys asked for more time.

Meier has admitted he buried Julie Meier's body in the yard of the Lower Kingsbury home at Lake Tahoe in 1994, but contends he does not know how she died.

Acting on a tip from family members, Douglas County authorities went to Meier's home on May 16 of this year. Meier led them to a shallow grave under a wood pile where his wife's body was found.

Investigators also found a cast-iron frying pan, metal grate and two refrigerator shelves buried at the site.
