HOUSTON -- Right wing Martin Gendron scored two goals and goaltender Parris Duffus stopped 30 shots as the Las Vegas Thunder beat the Houston Aeros 3-1 at the Summit.
Sunday's victory avenged Friday night's 4-3 shootout loss to the Aeros at the Thomas & Mack Center.
The Thunder now is 14-6-2 for 30 points, topping the Southwest Division by three points over second-place Utah. The Aeros now are 8-13-1 for 17 points, ranking them fourth in the five-team division.
Las Vegas scored one goal in each period, beginning with Pavol Demitra's eighth of the season at 17:17 of the first. Brent Gretzky and Rhett Trombley assisted.
Demitra got another point at 2:58 of the second period when he assisted Gendron's first goal of the night and 12th of the season.
Ahead 2-0 in the third, the Thunder saw its lead cut in half when Alan May tallied his second goal of the season at 6:14. But Gendron put the game away at 18:48 off a feed from Sergei Zholtok, who recently returned from his stay with the Ottawa Senators of the National Hockey League.
Duffus stopped eight shots in each of the first two periods and 14 in the third to raise his record to 14-4-2. Aeros netminder Frederic Chabot saved 32 of the Thunder's 25 shots, but fell to 8-11-1.
