Monday, Nov. 18, 1996 | 11:59 a.m.
Patrick Maher of Las Vegas had been a suspect, but investigators thought he had returned to Southern Nevada, according to Fallon Police Lt. Frank Shyne.
He was heading into Fallon to visit a friend when he ran out of gasoline a few miles outside of town, The Lahontan Valley News and Fallon Eagle Standard reported.
A Churchill County sheriff's deputy stopped to see if he needed help, then learned that Fallon police were looking for Maher.
He was booked under $4,500 bail on eight counts of injuring the property of another. He pleaded innocent to all charges.
