Billboard awards filmed at Aladdin
Friday, Nov. 8, 1996 | 11:59 a.m.
This year's show will open with a live performance by Z Z Top in front of the Hard Rock hotel-casino.
The award show will be hosted by comedian Chris Rock, who spent three seasons on "Saturday Night Live" and one season on Fox's "In Living Color." He has just finished as the sole presidential campaign correspondent for "Politically Incorrect." He won the 1994 Cable Ace Award for best comedy special.
Also scheduled to appear: Carrot Top, Dishwalla, Jewel, L.L. Cool Jay, Edward James Olmos, Antonio Sabato Jr., All-4-One, Keith Sweat, Tiffani-Amber Thiessen, "Weird Al" Yankovic, Brooks & Dunn, Z Z Top, Celine Dion, New Edition, Engelbert Humperdinck, Wayne Newton and Carlos Santana.
Tickets will go on sale at the Aladdin, 736-0111, and at all TicketMaster locations, 474-4000. Reserved seat tickets are from $15.50 to $25.50.
The 1996 Billboard Music Awards honors this year's No. 1 artists and songs as determined by the record-buying audience and radio air-play statistics. Winners are decided by the 1996 year-end charts compiled from Billboard's weekly charts, published from December 1995 to December 1996.
