SUN STAFF AND WIRE REPORTS
Barbara Mandrell will kick off her 1996 "Favorite Things" tour April 5 in Bally's Celebrity Room.
For the past two months -- despite a broken toe -- the country star has worked at a Nashville, Tenn., soundstage, rehearsing, rewriting and overhauling the show she'll unveil next week. She's getting choreography assistance from Joseph Mallone and from her daughter, Jaime Dudney.
"Favorite Things" will feature a variety of musical styles, from gospel to big band. Of course, she'll do some of her country hits, including "I Was Country When Country Wasn't Cool" and "Wish You Were Here."
Also appearing with the two-time Country Music Association Entertainer of the Year will be her musical ensemble, the Do-Rites, featuring two new members. "This is the first time I've hired ... two guys as singers first and dancers second," she said.
Mandrell will perform at 9 nightly through April 10. Tickets are $49.50. For reserved seating, call 739-4567.
