House buckled into money interests in gun law vote

Thursday, March 28, 1996 | 11:59 a.m.

That is what happened when the House repealed the assault weapon ban by a 239-173 vote, a product of the NRA payoff of the members who voted for the repeal.

The law they voted to repeal is favored by a majority of Americans and law enforcement officers. It is scary to think that the NRA wields this kind of power over Newt and his gang.

People do not need assault weapons to defend themselves. There are plenty of other weapons around.

This kind of action by Congress is what happens when we elect members of Congress who are willing to trade their votes for payoffs. NRA paid heavy to make this happen.

Sadly, Newt Gingrich and company made this vote a priority when more important legislation was awaiting action.
