Police Chase, Capture Two Suspects, Shooting One
Monday, March 25, 1996 | 11:59 a.m.
Las Vegas Metro Police were called to investigate a report of a man hiding under a vehicle with a gun, but could not find anyone when they arrived. Later, they were called to investigate a possible robbery involving suspects that fit the same description as the earlier call, but again could not find anyone.
The officers decided to wait in the dark for the suspects, who eventually appeared and ran from police. They ignored orders from police to halt, and then split up, resulting in the arrest of one of the suspects.
Police spotted the other suspect crouching and holding a handgun in an apartment building stairwell. The suspect saw the officer and ran, ignoring calls to stop. An officer shot at the suspect, who appeared to be preparing to fire, police said.
The suspect kept running, encountered another officer and again appeared looked like he would shoot, police said. The officer struck the suspect in the left foot. The alleged gunman was taken into custody and transported to University Medical Center.
Police searched the area and found a handgun in a stairwell.
The suspect was listed in fair condition. Both suspects will be booked for felony obstructing. One of the suspects is a juvenile, and the name of the other one has not been released because police are unsure of his identity, said Lt. Larry Spinosa.
The names of the officers will not be released for 48 hours.
