2 teens plead not guilty

Monday, March 25, 1996 | 11:59 a.m.

Two teenagers charged in the slaying of 14-year-old Joie Muth pleaded not guilty today to charges that could put them in prison for life.

District Judge Gerard Bongiovanni set an April 29 trial date for Michelle Ogle, 15, and Adrian Donacio, 17.

Ogle is alleged to have shot Muth in the chest after purported peace talks between rival gangs broke down.

Donacio, who is free on bail, is charged with setting the wheels of violence into motion when he pulled a pistol during the Feb. 6 altercation outside Pittman Elementary School near Torrey Pines Drive and Washington Avenue.

Both are charged with second-degree murder. Donacio also faces a charge of assault with a deadly weapon.

The two Western High School students, although affiliated with rival gangs, were indicted March 15 on the charges that prosecutors contend were committed to promote criminal gangs.

Muth, a freshman at Bonanza High School, was hit in the chest and a hand by bullets investigators concluded were fired by a person in the group she had accompanied to the school.
