Mulberry tree pollen counts on St. Patrick's Day broke the record for the Las Vegas Valley.
The Clark County Health District reported very high readings at KLVX Channel 10, the Boulder City Library, Burkholder Junior High School, and Griffith, Squires and Diskin elementary schools.
Squires, on East Tonopah Avenue in North Las Vegas, read 18,370 grains per cubic meter of air Sunday, breaking the 1995 record of 17,306 grains set in 1995 at Griffith, near West Charleston and Valley View Boulevards.
Griffith was also very high this year, reading 17,669 grains on St. Patrick's Day, the traditional time for pollen counts to peak. Channel 10 recorded 5,921 grains and the Boulder City Library 4,342 grains.
A reading of 100 grains per cubic meter is considered high and 500 is deemed very high.
