League exploring a forum on local quality of life
Thursday, March 21, 1996 | 11:59 a.m.
The panelists were asked to focus on the potential solutions to the problems we have created for ourselves. These leaders included representatives from the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce, the Latin Chamber of Commerce, the development and resort industries, city parks and recreation and education.
Everyone agreed we needed to stop blaming each other for the problems and start working together to create the solutions. Everyone must contribute to the solutions, because all of us will feel the consequences if we don't solve our problems.
The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan advocacy group that encourages the participation of citizens to work together to solve community and national problems. Anyone of voting age can be a member of the group.
The league would like to develop a forum to promote discussions by interested citizens that would lead to projects, programs and policy recommendations that will contribute to improving our quality of life in the valley.
We are developing a mailing list and information clearinghouse as a first step to establishing that forum. We plan to organize an open meeting to initiate discussions on these important issues. If you would like more information about our initiative "Las Vegas 2005," write to the League of Women Voters, P.O. Box 36222, Las Vegas, NV 89133-6222.
