SUN STAFF REPORTS

* HALF A MILLION -- Bail has been set at $500,000 for a 42-year-old man charged in the murder of his mother after she obtained a temporary restraining order against him. Tyrone Howard will be arraigned next week in Justice of the Peace James Bixler's courtroom on the charges that carry a life prison term if he is convicted. He is alleged to have violated the restraining order Monday when he returned with a gun to the home of Catherlena Howard, 68, and shot her in the head. She called 911 as he arrived but was dead before officers could respond.

* HOME INVASION -- Three teenagers have pleaded not guilty to felony charges in the assault of a couple in their South Shores home, near Summerlin in northwest Las Vegas. District Judge John McGroarty on Wednesday set an Oct. 7 trial date for James Trujillo, 18, John Neff, 18, and Nicholas Neff, 17, on the charges that could put them in prison for more than 50 years if they are convicted.
