COMET HYAKUTAKE'S tail is lengthening as it closes in on the sun and the earth. This photo is a 10 minute time exposure made with an 180mm telephoto lens at about 2:00 a.m. EST Thursday, March 21, 1996. The camera was attached to a special tracking mount that followed the motion of the comet and stars.
