Television worth noting this week

SATURDAY

Malibu Shores (NBC, 8-10 p.m.): This latest drama series from Aaron Spelling - producer of such shows as "Charlie's Angels," "Dynasty," and WB's current "Savannah" - is a rehash of his "Beverly Hills 90210" series. Once again the plot follows the ups and downs of rich high schoolers, though the twist here is another set of characters: teenagers from "the other side of the tracks."

Stop the World - I Want to Get Off (A&E, 10 p.m.-12 midnight): The 1960s hit musical-comedy follows the life of Littlechap (Peter Scolari) and his love interests (all played by Stephanie Zimbalist). The play features such songs as "What Kind of Fool Am I?," "Once in a Lifetime," and "Gonna Build a Mountain."

SUNDAY

Eyes in the Sky (Discovery, 9-11 p.m.): Satellites were originally designed for military surveillance, but since the end of the cold war, these devices have taken on key civilian roles. This program explores their history and new roles in communication, navigation, and weather forecasting.

A companion program airs on Monday: Spies Above (Discovery, 10-11 p.m.), a documentary on space-based espionage. The program was produced in cooperation with the Central Intelligence Agency and the National Reconnaissance Office and was granted unprecedented access to intelligence operations.

TUESDAY

Hollywood's Amazing Animal Actors (TBS, 8:05-10:05 p.m.): A light-hearted look at famous furry creatures who have delighted TV and film audiences. Babe the pig, Gentle Ben, Lassie, Mister Ed, and Rin Tin Tin are among the stars.

The Dana Carvey Show (ABC, 9:30-10 p.m.): "Saturday Night Live" alumnus Dana Carvey starts the humor in this new sketch-comedy with the show's title, which each week will feature a different sponsor's name - just like a mushrooming number of sports events. (This premiere is properly titled "'The Taco Bell Dana Carvey Show.") The show will be taped two days prior to airdate to keep sketches topical.
