Don’t blame the gun, but the criminals for shootings
Thursday, March 7, 1996 | 11:59 a.m.
Why, I ask do you so quickly gloss over the fact that "someone held the guns that did the killing?" Isn't it obvious this is a reason a person died. What is wrong with that "someone?" If what occurred is a crime, then should not that "someone" be held accountable for his actions? This brings us to the real core of this problem, the failing justice system.
There are no more weapons available today than there were 40 years ago, considering growth and population figures. What we are faced with are figures put out by the anti-weapons group that mislead us all into a sense of forboding. How about doing an editorial on the number of times a year the presence of a gun in the hands of a law-abiding citizen has prevented the occurrence of a crime
As for the "hotheads," would it really make any difference what weapon was available to them? These miscreants of society are going to kill any way they can, with anything they can. Citizens legally carrying have reduced crime statistics in those states that allow. Now that the citizens of Clark County and Nevada have the legal ability to do so, let's hope that, in itself, will become an honorable distinction for our city and our state.
