Senator loses 15-pound tumor

CARSON CITY -- State Sen. Lawrence Jacobsen, R-Minden, was reported in good condition today at Carson-Tahoe Hospital after surgery for the removal of a 15-pound tumor from his stomach.

Jacobsen's wife, Betty, said Tuesday the tumor was benign and the 74-year-old senator is "get along fine."

"He's been up and walking around," she said. Jacobsen has served in the Legislature since 1963.

Betty said the doctor believed the tumor has been growing slowly since birth.
