ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Gary Scott singled in a run in the ninth inning to snap a 5-5 tie and lift the Las Vegas Stars to a 6-5 Pacific Coast League victory over the Albuquerque Dukes.
Wednesday's win kept the Stars unbeaten through the first three games of the second half. Las Vegas will go for the series sweep of the Dukes this evening.
Sean Mulligan opened the top of the ninth with a walk against Albuquerque reliever Ramser Correa (0-2) and took second on a wild pitch. With one out, Scott lined a single back up the middle that drove in Mulligan with the go-ahead run.
Dustin Hermanson retired the Dukes in order in the bottom of the ninth to register his 14th save. Paul Abbott, who worked one inning in relief, got the win and improved to 2-1.
Las Vegas led 2-0 after scoring single runs in the first and second innings, but the Dukes scored four runs in the bottom of the second off starter Russ Swan.
The Stars closed to 4-3 with an unearned run in the fifth and tied it a 4-4 in the sixth on a run-scoring squeeze bunt by pinch-hitter Matt Schwenke.
The Stars went ahead 5-4 in the eighth on a pinch-hit double by Chad Tredaway and an RBI single by Ira Smith, but the Dukes tied it against Abbott in the bottom of the eighth.
Las Vegas' Glenn Dishman will be opposed by the Dukes' Felix Rodriguez in tonight's series finale. On Friday, Las Vegas begins a four-game series at Colorado Springs.
