Fishing report

Thursday, June 20, 1996 | 11:59 a.m.

* LAKE MEAD -- Boaters are finding good action for striped bass throughout the lake while shore fishermen are getting few bites. Striped bass are being taken on the surface of the lake slurping for larval threadfin shad. Trolling near the surface is a good method for catching the game fish. Wildlife biologists report this year's shad spawn appears to be successful as they are finding the tiny bait fish in all of the lake's basins. Better areas for catching stripers have been the intake tower, Sand Island, the Hemenway Wall, the back of Bonelli Bay and Boulder Canyon.

* LAKE MOHAVE -- Anglers have been finding only mediocre action for striped bass, but fair fishing for largemouth bass and channel catfish. Lots of boaters but few fishermen are being seen on weekends at Cottonwood Cove. However, those fishermen who have been taking to the water are having some success for small stripers by trolling in the South Basin near Six Mile Beach. Boaters are also connecting with stripers from the north power lines to Owl's Point.
