Drink gets extension for roof

A nightclub that has been the source of neighborhood noise since it opened a year ago has received another month to complete construction on a roof that was supposed to be completed last week.
The County Commission agreed to give the Drink and Eat Too! nightclub until July 16 before deciding to grant the club a permanent rock promoter's license.
An attorney for the nightclub, John Moran Jr., said Drink needs to have the roof completed over the open courtyard area before it can hold a concert to test for noise levels.
Moran also said he believes the county law singling out rock music for a special promoter's license is unconstitutional.
The club is allowed to hold indoor concerts under a separate county permit, but needs the rock promoter's license to charge admission or sell tickets to its shows.
The source of the complaints and problems with the club's neighbors has been concerts held in its open courtyard, which the club is spending $300,000 to cover with a permanent roof.
