Morning blaze guts restaurant

Tuesday, June 18, 1996 | 11:59 a.m.

The Chinese Garden restaurant on West Sahara Avenue was gutted this morning in a two-alarm fire.

The 5:01 a.m. blaze caused at least $500,000 in damage to the 15-year-old structure at 5485 W. Sahara Ave. just west of Decatur Boulevard, officials said.

It took Clark County firefighters at least 30 minutes to knock down the fire, then another 30 minutes or longer to hit the remaining hot spots, said Chief Robert Taylor.

"It was a pretty good fire," Taylor said. "The inside of the restaurant was pretty much gutted."

The fire started on the ground floor in the kitchen area, Taylor said. The cause was under investigation.

"It's the second significant fire at the same restaurant in four years," he said.

No injuries were reported, he said.
