The following comprises the series of incidences that led to the external review of the school released Thursday:
* CHAIR RESIGNS: Dr. Stephen Newmark, Chair of the department of internal medicine in Las Vegas, resigns effective April 1 because of a disagreement with Dean Robert Daughtery.
* STAFF RESIGNS: The entire staff of 11 full-time faculty in the internal medicine department tender the resignations in support of their chair effective July 1.
* NEW CHAIR: Dr. Lewis Morrow is appointed acting chair of the internal medicine department effective April 8.
* UMC VOTE: Fourteen of 15 members of the Medical Executive Committee of UMC pass a "vote of no confidence" in the dean's leadership. The vote was detailed in a position statement expressing that Daughtery "has acted contrary to the mission of clinical excellence and teaching."
* POSSIBLE FRAUD: There was a coincidental exploration of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology by the state attorney general's office of "possible Medicaid fraud involving billing practices for baby deliveries in Las Vegas."
* MATCH DAY: As a result of the National Match Day for residents, 18 residents had matched with the residency training program at UMC; and would be joining 23 returning resident in the program effective July 1.
* ACTION PLAN: The chancellor and the president of the University of Nevada Reno released an action plan in response to problems in the Department of Medicine April 2. Among the items was to order an external review.
