Stars game notes
Tuesday, July 2, 1996 | 11:59 a.m.
The Stars placed right-hander Scott Lewis on the disabled list Monday with a twisted left knee and called up right-handed pitcher Mike Freitas from double-A Memphis. Freitas was 2-0 with a 5.04 ERA in 26 relief appearances for the Chicks. ... The Stars continue to rank last in the Pacific Coast League in team hitting with a .260 average. Las Vegas never has finished last in the league in hitting since the team's inception in 1983. ... With his RBI triple in the third inning, Jim Tatum extended his hitting streak to 11 games. ... Gary Scott has hit safely in six straight games. ... The Stars have allowed their opponents 10 or more hits in seven of their past eight games. ... Rob Deer hit his 19th home run of the season Monday and moved into a tie for eighth place with Randy Asadoor on the Stars' career home-run list with 33. Dave Staton is the Stars' all-time home-run leader with 60 from 1991-94. Deer also has 91 strikeouts this season and is on pace to shatter the club's single-season mark of 138 set by Melvin Nieves in 1994. ... Craig Shipley, who joined the Stars Monday on a rehabilitation assignment from the San Diego Padres, left the game after the fourth inning and said he felt "a twinge" in his left hamstring. Shipley has been on the Padres' disabled list since May 21 with a strained left hamstring.
