DAR’s state conference in Las Vegas
Thursday, Feb. 29, 1996 | 11:59 a.m.
The Old Spanish Trail Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution will host the 71st Nevada State Conference of DAR Saturday and Sunday at the Crowne Plaza on Paradise Road.
The conference will include a special visit by the national society's president general, Dorla Dean Eaton Kemper.
In Nevada, there are seven state DAR chapters with a membership of 400:
* Nevada Sagebrush Chapter of Reno, organized in 1923.
* John C. Fremont Chapter of Carson City, 1949.
* Francis Garces Chapter of Las Vegas, 1950.
* Valley of Fire Chapter of Las Vegas, 1957.
* Washoe Zephyr Chapter of Virginia City, 1991.
* Silver State Chapter of Boulder City, 1991.
* Old Spanish Trail Chapter of Henderson, 1994.
Dorla Kemper has served the national society on every level. She is a past treasurer and regent of Emigrant Trail Chapter in Auburn, Calif., and was the organizing regent of Gold Trail Chapter in Roseville, Calif.
She was district director, state registrar, state vice regent and state regent of the California state society. As national chairwoman of the Units Overseas Committee, she traveled more than 100,000 miles throughout eight countries.
In 1986, she was elected recording secretary general and in April 1995 president general in April 1995. Her aim is to open doors of communication with members, and respond to their concerns.
Other ideas she has implemented include computer-generated application forms, a home page site on the World Wide Web, an e-mail service and programs to encourage and recognize volunteer services.
Kemper owned and operated her own real estate brokerage business. She is listed in Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who of American Women and Who's Who of Professional and Business Women. She retired from the business in 1993.
Her husband, Charles, retired from the 3M Co. after 37 years and does consulting work in sales and marketing. He is a member of the Auburn Chapter of Sons of the American Revolution and serves on the advisory board of the national society.
