UNLV students tell city’s story with photos in ‘Planet Vegas’
Friday, Dec. 20, 1996 | 11:59 a.m.
The students, Kenneth Garley, Samantha Barbee, Christine Nino and Angela Bennett, worked under the guidance of UNLV photography Professor Pasha Rafat.
The project includes photographs of every motel on Las Vegas Boulevard south of Fremont Street as well as wedding chapels. Also included are "casino still-lifes," featuring artfully arranged slot machines.
To put it all in perspective, black-and-white photographs of Fremont Street's humble beginnings that were re-photographed and reprinted as part of a restoration project for the UNLV special collection department will be exhibited.
This exhibit, presented by the city of Las Vegas, runs through Jan. 15.
