Letter: Destroy that plutonium in domestic power plants
Friday, Dec. 20, 1996 | 11:59 a.m.
And so it goes, on and on, whether or not nuclear wastes should be stored in Nevada. I believe that all Nevadans have not rejected this proposal. I, for one, have not seen any constructive criticism, that is, good reasons for storing the waste somewhere else. It's always "no, not here" like a bunch of kids talking. Of course, the storage cannot be "safe" anywhere; who knows what lies in the future. And I dare say radioactive traces can be found in water supplies anywhere in the world; our world was born in radioactivity.
And stop talking about fairness. All is fair only in love and war. Fairness, just like in affirmative action, implies equality without rationality, or in other words, fabricated equality.
It sounds to me like the idea of burning up the plutonium in domestic power plants is the best idea so far; let's destroy political incorrectness and get on with it.
