* PARKING LOT BUY -- The real estate committee of the Las Vegas City Council has recommended buying an empty downtown lot adjacent to Councilman Matthew Callister's law office. The 31,500-square-foot parcel at 801 Las Vegas Blvd. South will be turned into a parking lot, one of several the city has paved downtown. It sits adjacent to the Callister & Reynolds law office at 823 Las Vegas Blvd. South and diagonally across the street from the city's new development services center. Parking in the downtown area will be at a premium, especially after the city removes on-street parking spaces to make way for landscaped medians. The purchase will appear on the council's Wednesday agenda.

* WORK CARDS LONGER -- Work card holders will have to get renewed less often under revisions to the Las Vegas' municipal code. The revisions were recommended by a City Council committee Monday. In addition to the longer term, the ordinance would allow Metro to exclusively decide who will be granted a card, with appeals heard by the council. The ordinance would also allow Metro's Fiscal Affairs Committee to set work-card fees. Police currently charge $20, despite the fact that city law allows for only a $6 fee, according to city documents.
