NFL Power Rankings

Tuesday, Dec. 10, 1996 | 11:59 a.m.

The Green Bay Packers' 41-6 throttling of Denver Sunday may not mean as much as it appears since the AFC-West champion Broncos chose to rest slightly-injured quarterback John Elway.

But the win certainly meant something to the Scripps Howard News Service NFL computer power rankings as Green Bay overtook Denver for the top spot. The New England Patriots, winners of 10 of their last 12, moved up to No. 3.

Numbers to the left are team rankings. Numbers to the right are the current power ratings. To determine the projected margin, compare the ratings of the rival teams and allow four points for typical home field advantage.
