Letter: City’s plans for park would enhance livability of area

Tuesday, Dec. 10, 1996 | 11:59 a.m.

Las Vegas has no desire to force the return of this scenic gem to city control. Indeed, the city has no desire to change or alter the existing park whatsoever.

What we are seeking is to enter into a dialogue with the state park system on the possibility of co-developing the unimproved 2,650 acres surrounding the park.

This enormous undeveloped land presents a unique potential recreational opportunity for a growing north and northwest Las Vegas. We believe this could best be done through a cooperative venture with state parks continuing the management of the existing 150 acres, while the city helps develop some of the remaining acreage. This would preserve the integrity of the current park.

I believe this to be a good idea that exemplifies public partnerships to better serve both state and city residents.
