Former Prosecutor To Be Charged With Felony Drug Possession

Steve Hill, who resigned from the Clark County district attorney's office following the October incident, will be charged under a deal worked out between his attorney and the attorney general's office.
Hill, who could face as many as four years in prison, will go through "drug court," a voluntary program in which charges are dropped after successful completion of a drug treatment program, said attorney Stephen Stein.
"Mr. Hill is going to be treated just like everyone else," Stein said. "That's no better, no worse, no different than anyone else."
Attorney General Frankie Sue Del Papa, whose office took over the case because of a possible conflict of interest, said the charge is comparable to what anyone else would get under the same circumstances.
Hill was stopped early one October morning when police noticed what appeared to be suspicious activity with a woman in his car.
At the time of the stop, police said Hill told officers he was looking for a bachelor party.
A police dog found cocaine in the car and a gun was also found, but Hill was not arrested. Instead, he was released into the supervision of the district attorney's office administrator.
Hill was put on administrative leave and then voluntarily resigned and entered a drug treatment program.
During his tenure as a county prosecutor, HIll prosecuted a 1993 case about an Interstate 15 shooting that was partly blamed on cocaine use.
