Electrical trouble ignited diner fire

Tuesday, Dec. 3, 1996 | 11:59 a.m.

An electrical malfunction inside a kitchen panel box is being blamed for a fire inside a wall in the Golden Gate hotel-casino's Bay City Diner.

Las Vegas firefighters were able to confine Sunday's 11:37 a.m. fire to a small area in the diner where three electric panel boxes are located, said Timothy Szymanski, fire department spokesman.

The casino and parts of the hotel sustained light smoke damage before the fire could be put out. Employees and guests were evacuated for about 40 minutes.

Damage has been estimated at $5,000.
