Dove-hunting season starting on Sunday

IT'S FINALLY hunting season, with the dove opener slated for Sunday. There are restrictions in place for the first two weekends of the season at Overton Wildlife Management Area.
Reservations are required to hunt Overton WMA on Sunday, the 1st and Sunday, the 8th. On Saturday, Sept. 7, a Youth Dove Hunt will be held and reservations will be restricted to 30 youth dove hunters ages 12-15. The young hunters must be accompanied by a parent or other adult.
The drawing for reservations was held on August 26. While it's likely that the drawings were all sold out, the learn if there are any reservations yet remaining, call NDOW at 486-5127.
The dove season statewide runs through September. Reservations will not be required at Overton beyond the first two weekends of the season.
Turkey applications
Hunters interested in applying for this fall's either sex wild turkey hunts, including 10 available tags to hunt at Moapa Valley in Clark County, must hurry to make the deadline.
Applications must be received by the Hunt Application Office in Fallon by 5 p.m. on Friday. Applications are available from the NDOW at 4747 W. Vegas Drive or most license agents. Utah Dove Season Opens Sept. 2
Hunters should be aware that in Utah dove season won't open until Monday, September 2. Utah law prohibits the opening of a hunting season on Sunday.
Youth waterfowl hunt
Young people should mark their calendars now to participate in youth waterfowl hunts that will be held one week before the scheduled opening of regular duck seasons this year, as approved recently by the Board of Wildlife Commissioners.
Saturday, Oct. 5, will be the youth waterfowl hunting day in all counties except Clark and Lincoln, which will have a hunt on Saturday, Oct. 26.
Festival of the Pines
The Spring Mountain Association will hold its 5th Annual Festival in the Pines on Saturday, Sept. 7, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort, located in Mount Charleston's Lee Canyon.
The theme for the daylong celebration is "Do It On The Mountain." The Festival was created to show people the many activities that can be enjoyed in the Spring Mountain.
Admission is $1 per person and the donor will receive a raffle ticket. The proceeds will be used for educational projects within the Spring Mountain National Recreation Area.
