Las Vegas Stars Notes
Friday, Aug. 9, 1996 | 11:59 a.m.
Glenn Dishman struck out a season-high 11 batters and the Stars hit a team-record 10 doubles as they closed out the homestand with a 10-2 rout of the Tucson Toros. Dishman (6-7) took a 2-hit shutout into the ninth inning, but gave up a pair of runs on two hits. Al Osuna retired the final Toros batter to secure the win. "It's easy when the guys score one in the bottom of the first and four in the bottom of the second," Dishman said of his offensive support. "I was throwing strikes when I needed to. Earlier in the season, I was throwing strikes but I was wild in the zone. I think now I'm starting to hit the side of the plate I want to and I'm throwing more pitches for strikes." Jim Tatum had three doubles, Rico Rossy and Riccardo Ingram each had two and Dishman, Julio Bruno and Jason Thompson each had one double for Las Vegas, which outhit Tucson 18-4. The old Stars record for doubles in a game was eight, set in 1989 and tied in 1993. ... Tatum paced the Stars with four hits, while Ingram and Thompson had three each. ... The Stars finished the 12-game homestand with a 9-3 record and increased their lead in the Pacific Coast League Southern Division to 3 1/2 games over Albuquerque, which was rained out Thursday, four games over Tucson and five over the Phoenix. ... In the past three games, Rossy is hitting .727 (8-for-11) with a home runs, two doubles and four RBI and has raised his average from .233 to .249.
