Inmate caught after leaving state facility
Friday, Aug. 9, 1996 | 11:59 a.m.
A guard at the camp who was transporting another inmate spotted Wayne Klausner, 43, on Wednesday at the Red Lion Inn and Casino.
Elko police, county sheriff's deputies and the Nevada Highway Patrol combed the hotel and a nearby shopping plaza looking for the man. They also checked along nearby Interstate-80.
Guess who showed up Thursday on a security camera? Still at the Red Lion.
He tried to cut out a back door, but officers were quicker.
He said he watched Wednesday's search from the shopping plaza.
Klausner is serving time at the minimum-security facility for obtaining money under false pretenses.
It's likely he'll be looking at some additional time for escape. And at less lenient living quarters.
