Las Vegas Stars Notes

Tuesday, Aug. 6, 1996 | 11:59 a.m.

Stars relief pitcher Pete Walker came away from his two-inning stint Sunday night with a sore right shoulder and is expected to miss 3-4 days, according to Stars manager Jerry Royster. ... First baseman Jason Thompson hit his 20th home run, a two-run shot in the sixth, and became the 14th Stars player to hit at least 20 homers in a season. The Stars' record is 32, set by Kevin McReynolds in 1983. Since the Stars raised the height of the outfield walls from 10 feet to 20 feet following the 1984 season, Melvin Nieves has the "modern-day" record with 25 homers in 1994. ... Outfielder Todd Steverson doubled Tucson's Ray Montgomery off first base on a deep fly ball to right field for his seventh assist of the season. Steverson has not committed an error in the outfield in 68 games this season. ... During the first nine games of the homestand, Las Vegas' starting pitchers have compiled a 3.03 earned-run average while the bullpen has posted a 5.96 ERA.
