In addition to the Epicenter, 2100 Maryland Parkway, which provides dental care for teens, other local efforts call upon dental volunteers.
One is the Las Vegas Dental Health Coalition for Children, made up of organizations dedicated to establishing community-based dental services.
The coalition has secured a $75,000 grant from United Way to provide dentistry for low-income children. Nine local dentists have volunteered to see referred patients in their offices at a reduced fee.
About 15 dentists, 20 hygienists and 30 auxiliary personnel also have agreed to volunteer at quarterly clinics at Community College of Southern Nevada to provide services to about 500 low-income children.
The program is a joint effort of CCSN, the Community Health Centers of Southern Nevada, the Clark County Dental Society and the state health division, which supplied a $20,000 grant.
