Stars second baseman Homer Bush singled in the fifth inning Sunday and extended his hitting streak to a season-high nine games. Going into Sunday's game, Bush was eighth in the Pacific Coast League with a .349 average. ... First baseman Jason Thompson had a double in his first trip to the plate and now has hit safely in five straight games. Thompson was ninth in the league in batting with a .348 average going into play Sunday. ... The Stars are second in the PCL with a team earned-run average of 4.13. The lowest staff ERA posted by a Stars team was 4.41 in 1986. The pitching staff is tied for last in the league in home runs allowed (18), but has allowed the fewest walks (45). ... The Stars will present the first of five postgame fireworks displays following Friday night's homestand finale against Tucson.

Upcoming games

Stars right-hander Scott Lewis (0-2, 2.66) will meet Phoenix right-hander Steve Soderstrom (1-0, 2.74) in the series finale tonight at 7:05. Despite his 0-2 record, Lewis is eighth in the PCL in earned-run average. Soderstrom, a Fresno State product, is ninth in the league in ERA.

The Tucson Toros pay their first visit to Cashman Field on Tuesday to begin a four-game series.
