Letters: Vote for better police protection this fall

I will vote yes on the Public Safety Bond issue on Sept. 3 this year.

We can be proud we have a dedicated sheriff truly concerned for our safety. Sheriff Jerry Keller with 27 years of police experience understands the real problems of Las Vegas and Clark County.

On April 27, he was on Channel 13, John Daly's "In Focus" program. Sheriff Keller spoke very eloquently, to the point and in a language ordinary people can understand.

A bottom line and main aspect of the bond issue is: We need more jails to put the criminals in. One misconception must be corrected. Voting yes for the bond does not raise our taxes.

A survey last year showed the main concern for public was personal safety and that more money should be allotted for this. Therefore, let's be consistent Sept. 3 and vote for what we said.

We have a fiscally responsible sheriff who's open to the public and media. Further, Keller has a good relationship with the district attorney's office, elected officials and the business community. Also, on the bond issue, he has the support of the leadership of our justice system and community leaders. I suggest we should do no less.

Daily, our police put their lives on the line for our protection. They're there for us. On Sept. 3, let's be there for them by voting yes on the Public Safety Bond issue.
