SUN STAFF REPORTS

A 55-year-old man shot in the face by his son when he was mistaken for a burglar has died.

Otis Deshotel died about 4 p.m. Wednesday at University Medical Center after being admitted Tuesday with a gunshot wound.

Otis Deshotel went to his son Shannon's 2209 Kenneth St. house in North Las Vegas about 10:25 a.m. Tuesday and walked to the back yard, North Las Vegas Police said.

Detective John Martin said the father, who lived in Las Vegas, usually knocked on the front door or called first before he visited. But this time he didn't, Martin said.

The son opened the back door and fired a revolver when he saw the figure in his back yard move. It turned out to be his father. The son called 911.

The father and 25-year-old son had a good relationship, Martin said. "The son was very distraught," he said.
