Thursday, April 18, 1996 | 11:59 a.m.
Fifth-grade Gifted and Talented Education program students in Lena Cook's class at Beatty Elementary School and fifth-graders in Stella Marasco's class at Treem Elementary School are among those participating.
These students will accept an award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on behalf of their counterparts last year who were runners-up in the 1995 President's Environmental Youth Awards Program.
This year's students will further celebrate the Earth with a birthday party during lunch, including a cake.
Students also have submitted original essays to the UNLV Earth Day Committee on the topic, "How I Can Make a Difference Toward Improving the Environment." Entries will be displayed on Earth Day.
