Peppin and Roger Denault surrendered at the Washoe County sheriff's office on Tuesday. They were booked and released after posting $25,000 bond each. Neither Peppin, 51, of Sparks, nor Denault, 50, of Portland, Ore., was accompanied by an attorney.
A criminal complaint filed March 25 charged the men with trafficking in a controlled substance and with cultivating the illegal mushrooms in the garage of a mobile home rented by Peppin in Washoe Valley. The exact value of the crop still has not been calculated.
Both men could face a maximum life sentence that requires that they serve at least 10 years before becoming eligible for parole.
