Loux is not protecting Nevada on Yucca Mountain

Bob Loux has probably tried his best -- heck, he's probably only following directions from his boss, Gov. Miller. I don't like to see anyone be the fall guy, but the recent report by the state legislative auditor criticizing Loux's contracting procedures for misusing $700,000 of the state's oversight funds, shows it's time for a reorganization of the state Agency for Nuclear Projects.

In 1990, the same GAO blasted the state for misusing $1 million of the federal oversight funds. It's unfortunate that Congress sees the affected counties and the state as one and the same. But it's because of that misperception and Loux's reputation that the counties lost their oversight funding. With the counties losing their oversight funding, we've lost some of the most credible oversight being conducted in the state.

Look at what Nye County has done; they are protecting their constituents. A history of blatant mismanagement and abuse of funds has followed Loux. It might be time for him to be history.
